I Can See Clearly Now
Tortilla Flats Records
1977
From the back cover: This album is proof of what a very few can accomplish when they are of the same mind. From the very beginning, the experts, and the critics, said it could not be done. At times, it almost seemed that they might be right.
Where can we find Fred thompson now? Met him in 1974, went to his home in san diego on 50th street and bought one our albums from him.
ReplyDeleteUsed to watch them in the Sheraton Hotel on Harbor Island, San Diego. Such a fun and talented group, including the late great Joni McGowan, "The world's greatest lady banjo player."
ReplyDeleteFred would close with "If you liked what you saw, tell your friends you saw the Guadalajara National Philharmonic. If you didn't like us, tell 'em you saw the Vienna Boys Choir."
I used to go see this band in san diego when I was in the navy ,it was fred, shami, cheryl, sidney & joni they were the best girl band(and fred) I ever heard my gosh how he could play the ukulele with rock and roll ,the girls would be in long tight white dresses my friends and I would stay all night drinking and watching this band great times if any member of this band reads this call 931-580-4932 ask for jerry
ReplyDeleteI used to drive to San Diego from Phoenix in the 70's to see Fred and the ladies too. My picture is even on the back of their album. Anybody ever get an update on anybody in the group? Contact Kay Lowe at Phxqueen@yahoo.com aka their no.1 fan.
ReplyDeleteThis is Sydney "Fastfingers" Peritz...(Fred used to call me that). I'm still playing music, mostly doing recording projects from home with the soundman that worked with Fred on occasion, John Balestreri. I was literally in tears when I read that Joni is no longer with us. She was an amazing talent and so much fun to work with. I've tried to find some of the other women musicians whom I worked with on the internet but no luck yet. The last person I saw was Shammy Ruiz (bass/lead vocals) when she visited San Diego and of course we worked together with Sheryl Ronin (drums) in Las Vegas, Nevada. Any information please contact sydneyperitz@gmail.com or to say "hello".
